The West Springfield Public library is a vital community resource for local parents with young children. We offer a wide variety of materials and services for our youngest patrons and their families.
The material collections include board books, picture books, big books, book + CD sets, book & puppet sets, theme learning kits, magazines, parent/teacher materials, beginning readers, juvenile non-fiction, music CD’s and video in VHS and DVD formats.
Services include age appropriate storytime sessions which incorporate literacy building methods and activities, evening and Saturday storytimes, Saturday drop-in crafts, inclusion in our annual Summer Reading Program as “Read-To-Me” participants, special programming in the summer and outreach services at Headstart and area preschools.

This is the first of our offering of storytimes in languages other than English. Studies have shown that babies and very young children's brains become tuned to whatever language they hear from their caregivers, and "it is now understood that the constant need to shift attention between languages leads to several conginitive advantages," which can be lifelong advantages.
