SCIENCE ROCKS
Friday, September 24, 2021
03:30pm - 04:30pm

Description:

For September we will be learning about how and why our climate is changing, how climate change affects us, and what people can do to slow climate change and prepare for it. We explain the science behind climate change, the impacts of climate change, and how you can help.

We will also learn about the world's growing production of plastics, estimated at 100 million tons annually, not just clogging landfill sites and threatening our oceans and marine life; it's accelerating climate change.

"Plastic is one of the most persistent pollutants on Earth. It's made to last - and it does, often for 400 years or more. And at every step in its lifecycle, even long after it has been discarded, plastic creates greenhouse gas emissions that are contributing to the warming of our world." Kerri Major, World Wildlife Federation

Finally, we will talk about new scientific research in biodegradable plastics which won't solve the current plastics problem but may offer solutions to reducing future plastic waste.

Our experiment will be to make biodegradable plastic out of milk and vinegar."
